A unique nest of rosewood tables attributed to Illum Wikkelsø
A unique set of two stacking tables and a tray inside a master table attributed to the designer Illum Wikkelsø.

Attributed design to Illum Wikkelsø - Producer: C F Christensen - Silkeborg, Denmark - circa 1960

The design is minimalistic and practical as well as an absolute pleasure to look at.

There are a few examples of multiple stacking tables housed in a master table designed by Illum Wikkelsø, in museums and private collections, although no other piece incorporating a tray is known to exist.

The two tables that are ingeniously stored inside the master table are retrieved by simply sliding them out and unfolding the scissor action legs. Petit rosewood knobs with brass mounts on the two stacking tables not only make retrieving them easy but these handles also form the pivot point for the legs. The legs on both tables fold in half smoothly and the cross structure of the stacking tables' legs make these tables sturdy.

The rosewood tray that also slides out from the master table continues the harmony of form and function in the design. The raised lip ensures things do not slip off the tray and being lined with melamine means that anything split can easily be cleaned. The colour of the melamine is a punchy-red which contrasts the rosewood spectacularly.

All the elements of the design are constructed of brass or rosewood; the legs and banding of the tables are solid and this is indicative of the supreme quality of this piece of furniture.

Condition: Excellent. There are only small scratches to each table top consummate with age to note. All of these are light, old scratches and are now under a smooth and even Danish oil finish.
