Oak 'Senator' armchair by Ole Wanscher, 1951, for France and Son
Stunning mid-twentieth century Danish design armchair with solid oak frame and simple sprung reversible cushions.
Designer: Ole Wanscher - Producer: France & Søn - Model 166 - Year of design: 1951
Also known as the "Senator chair", the generosity of the seat, sprung cushions and armrests make this a very comfortable as well as visually exciting armchair.
Typical of an Ole Wanscher design the model 166 chair boasts a beautifully sculptured wooden frame. The arm rests especially -wonderfully carved on one side and flat on the other- really shows off the beauty of the golden oak's grain.
The cushions are individual and fully upholstered so you can flip them over and use both sides.
Condition: Beautiful vintage condition, the chair shows only minor signs of use consummate with age. The oak wood displays a great patina.
The frame is etched with a circle where the France and Søn makers disc would have sat. This is no longer present put the frame is stamped with the France and Søn monogram in gold.
The chair can be completely dismantled and flat packed for easy transport.
